Morning Watch Notes

Follow Jesus for the way of life (Romans 7:7-11). #BeAlertToSin https://www.bible.com/1588/rom.7.7-11.amp Another argument by Paul (rhetorically), from the sublime to the ridiculous: “[Is] the law of God sinful?“ Does it cause me to sin? “Of course not!“ The law is a warning, an alert that reveals a danger. I’m swimming at the beach, then see the sign, “No Swimming. Sharks.“ YIKES! Is it the fault of the sign (God’s law) my day is ruined? Am I angry at the sign? If I take the sign down will the sharks go away? NO! I’m good as dead, swimming in that water. I must turn my back on that beach and move to a safe beach. (Illus: Life Action Study Bible) Lord, I will take whatever actions are consistent with your Word. Like, avoiding known trouble-spots. Moving my feet if inadvertently trapped. Letting the Holy Spirit be my lifeguard for life.

Cultivate your new found freedom in Christ; serve him (Rom 7:1-6) #DeadToSin #FreeInChrist  https://www.bible.com/1588/rom.7.1-6.amp When married, one is bound to the law of marriage; no longer available to another. But when the marriage partner dies the law of marriage no longer applies. So it is when trusting Christ. The old nature died with the crucified Christ. The power of the law of sin and death is canceled. It is nullified by the death of the old “partner.” I am free like never before to follow the law of life and light in Christ; to do the good works of God and not the old works of self interests. I have been set free from the power of sin that controlled my whole life. Free to  choose to live my new life to please God alone... ...serving God and serving others.     ...putting the interests of others ahead of my own.     ...encouraging the household of faith.     ...doing all things through love and humility.      Et al.

Abundant life and freedom is ours in Christ (Rom 6:20–23). #Freedom #AbundantLife #TheGift  https://www.bible.com/116/rom.6.20-23.nlt At one time we were held captive by a Sin-master. We did not even know there was another, higher, way of living. Darkness, shame and eternal doom was our wages. But Jesus offers us a choice, something the Sin-master never allowed. In Christ, the inner man is emancipated.  We are free and we can choose to serve Christ, making us his bondslaves. Once, a cruel Sin-master owned our fate – the payoff was death. Now the free gift of life is ours in yielding our heart to Jesus. All are invited to turn from the Sin-master and serve Christ. Abundant life and freedom follows.

FREEDOM! Choose to follow Christ by love and obedience (Rom 6:19). #Freeborn #ServeJesus https://www.bible.com/116/rom.6.19.nlt Paul apologizes for his use of the idea of slavery. All human illustrations eventually break down when trying to explain eternal concepts. Certainly men don’t become “slaves” to God in the way we understand. Slavery is a scourge. But the idea of slavery paints a picture of man’s absolute surrender to the Sin-master on the one hand and to God on the other. Obedience to the one leads to lawlessness and death. Obedience to the other leads to holiness and life. It begins with the one thing slavery in our understanding never offers – a choice. TRUE FREEDOM comes when we choose to follow Jesus.
